Soutis-Fleck Fracture Model
Unstable Fracture - Evaluation of Stress Intensity Factors, KI
  • The Stress Intensity Factors may be calculated using the J-Integral Method.
  • The J-Integral is equal to the Strain Energy release rate which allows us to employ the Finite Element Method.
  • For the linear elastic case, the J-Integral is the negative differential of strain energy with respect to crack surface area.

  • The finite element method is used to calculate KI by measuring the strain energy for various crack lengths.
